Are You An Idealist? | Estèe Lauder Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher Review

Hello lovely, I'm back with another beauty product review this evening.

This product was a very spontaneous buy for me when I visited the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Centre, where to be honest I just didn't want to leave empty handed. Believe me, the discounts in that beauty store were so good I couldn't let the opportunity pass! Although most of the makeup consisted of the colours that typically never make it mainstream, the skincare section was full of products and brands I've seen talked about positively over the past few years. As well as this Estee Lauder Serum, I picked up the Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Treatment Lotion Mist which I talked about in my 3 Must Have Beauty Essentials  For Summer '17 post last month!

Anyway, on to today's topic... the Estee Lauder Idealist Serum that has the much fancier title of 'pore minimizing skin refinisher'. Because of this, I was a little confused about the real purpose of this (is it a serum, a primer, a moisturiser?) but hey, it sounded good so I thought why not. I most definitely would not have paid full price for this, as I don't really splash the cash on pore perfecting products because my pores aren't really an issue for me. Nevertheless, I figured this would be a nice treat for my skin! The intention of this serum is to reduce large pores, flaky skin, redness and fine lines on the face. Basically, it is meant to solve all those pesky irregularities on your skin to create a smooth texture and appearance. It has some pretty impressive claims about turning your skin back into the skin you were born with, virtually poreless but after using it for months now I'm sad to say I don't have the baby skin I would like. That doesn't mean that this is a bad product, it has done a lot of nice things for my skin and I feel like it's a great primer, it just didn't live up to those pretty big claims.

The definition of Idealist:
'a person who is guided more by ideals than by practical considerations'

Coincidentally the name of this product rings true, wouldn't it just be ideal to have perfect poreless skin... ignoring the fact that it's impossible as our skin is actually made up of pores. Really we should be idealising clean pores, not no pores... because those photoshopped faces on skincare adverts are just downright unattainable. This had me thinking about if I'm an idealist when it comes to all beauty products... do I really buy the products that seem the most ideal but perhaps are just a poor product in disguise? Rather than actually doing any research about it beforehand like I did with this one?

Nevertheless, I'm rambling again. If you're looking for a product to get smoother and brighter skin then this will do the job but I can't help but think about how you can get the same results from a drugstore product. Because of this fact I've only rated it 4 stars, however, if you do like splurging on more luxury products this is will do you no wrong. Obviously, because I don't have the largest pores I'm not the best to test this out but I still have my fair share of visible pores on my t-zone and I don't feel like this made a difference. One big selling point of this product is that makeup applies amazingly on top of it! I truly mean amazingly, it's like putting silk on your skin.

The Cosy Sweater Edit | ft. a day at the Northumberland Coast

Hey lovely.

I hope you're as excited as I am that the Autumn season is just around the corner! As much as I love Summer, we don't really do it well here in the North East, but we nail the Autumn/ Winter months. Despite the fact the mornings are a lot darker making you feel like you're getting up in the middle of the night at 6am, I am looking forward to beauty of the crisp mornings, many takeaway coffee cups, golden leaves and most importantly cosy sweaters that can be thrown on with a pair of jeans for a easy, looks good every time outfit- the perfect type of outfit when you have early starts for Uni like me! I put together my favourite picks this season for fall so far, although I'm sure more stunning knit jumpers and fleesy baseball sweaters will come out in the next few months. This was inspired by my recent trip around Northumberland where myself and my lovely boyfriend Andy, had another one of our Sunday Funday's (in an attempt to do more with our weekends that doesn't break the bank). We ended up driving through Alnwick, grabbing fish and chips then carried on to the cost near Craster, where we found the most peaceful part of the beach and ate with this lovely view before snapping a few pictures and exploring the rocks. There's something so calming to me to just sit by the sea, espeically since I don't live near the seaside which if I'm honest, has left me dreaming about owning a cute little seaside cottage- the perfect getaway. Do you love the seaside too?

The Ultimate Affordable Copper & Grey Kitchen (Everything Under £100) | Debeau Interiors

Right now in the world of interiors it seems there is nothing more popular than the copper trend, apart from maybe the marble trend that seems to be sticking around much longer than I thought it would! There is something just so dreamy, modern and classy about touches of warm metals throughout a space and I've paired them with tones of grey to give a juxtaposed industrial feel. All of these items could be used to accessorise your kitchen, and as always I've paid great attention to making sure every product I include is under £100! Let me know in the comments below which items you'd love to add to your home and what other colour schemes/ trends you would like to see in the future. My Perfect Summer Coverage Base by YSL Beauty

This summer I've been trying out a lot of different bases, broadening my horizons to the likes of BB creams, CC's, tinted moisturisers, serums.. the whole lot! If you're anything like me, the ideal formula for a base in the summer time is a light-medium coverage but with a very lightweight feel on the skin. Because of that fact, this foundation by YSL has quickly become a must have for me! The Yves Saint Laurent Fusion Ink Foundation has a unique formula that provides my perfect amount of coverage, colour (there are loads of shades to choose from) and a beautiful finish, which I would describe as velvety/ matte. This was a surprise since the formula seems quite runny and dewy when first applied. One layer of the foundation is perfect for me for a more natural 'your skin but better' look but it is easily buildable. The best way I can describe it is it provides a nice pigmented veil over the face to even out your skin tone which is the main reason I like to wear face makeup. Sometimes I mix this with The Ordinary Serum Foundation which I have in a much paler colour, to tone down my Fusion Ink because the shade I have is only perfect for when I am fake tanned (I use Bondi Sands Ultra Dark if you're wondering) and they mix really really well! Also if I'm having any bad breakouts I'll target them with a skin toned concealer to avoid caking my whole face in lots of makeup it doesn't need or want.

Another reason I also love this foundation is its staying power, most days I don't wear primer or setting spray (I know I should but I like to be as quick as possible) and it still lasts throughout the day for about 7-8 hours, with powder on my oily t-zone which I'd recommend doing with any base! I am also a massive fan of the packaging, here's why... the beautiful frosted glass container feels really sturdy and it has that lovely ysl luxury feel. It also has a spatula-like applicator which I use to apply dots around my face and then blend out with my fingers or a beauty sponge, which means you don't apply too much and waste it. This formula is marketed to be resistant to heat and humidity, ensuring long-wear but I've not had any kind of heat with living in the UK! However, I am planning on taking this to Gran Canaria next month so I'll be able to test this out.

In a nutshell, I would highly recommend this foundation to anyone who is wanting a great natural looking, long-wear semi matte base but I would beware if you have dry skin as I have noticed it clings to dry patches. I most likely will switch up my foundation when the colder months set in and my skin starts to get dryer with the weather, but for summer YSL takes home gold with this one in my eyes!

And here's the foundations trusty side-kick... the Yves Saint Laurent Radiant Touch Highlighting Pen, which has been a long time favourite of mine now. The perfect light-weight formula to brighten up under the eyes, just don't expect a thick coverage concealer because this is not. The formula includes tiny light particles and mineral extracts to create a nice healthy, natural, luminous glow and hide those show-tell signs of lack of sleep and shadows on the face. I love the handy little pen style that you can easily throw in your handbag if you need an extra highlight or refresh during the day.
